Lodging at the Farmhouse

The McCarthy Farmhouse is a 3400 square foot historic celebrity home. Purchased in 1933 by Joseph McCarthy, Hall of Fame lyricist and founder of ASCAP, he used it as a summer home for his family and friends from Broadway to vacation in the summer. The famous Florenz Ziegfeld, silent actress Billie Burke and the dancing Ziegfeld Girls were frequent guests. His son Joseph A McCarthy also a lyricist, wrote "Ramblin' Rose" for Frank Sinatra, inherited the farm and married the legendary Hollywood silver screen movie star Veronica Lake. They summered during the 1950's entertaining their friends such as Debbie Reynolds, Marlon Brando, Alan Ladd, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Mickey Rooney and Bobby Fisher the international chess king.

The Farmhouse sits up on the hill greeting you as you drive in with a massive wraparound sunporch with wicker furniture and enclosed views of the farmland, the Veronica Lake Studios and Movie Barns and sunsets over Jeffers Mountain. Greeting you off the sunporch is a den, entertainment room and living room with couches sitting around a grand old stone fireplace. The living room takes you into the dining room which flows into the full kitchen. The kitchen is complete with a dishwasher, stove, microwave, refrigerator and ends with the mud room washer and dryer. The den boasts a TV and sofa bed with views of the hot tub, deck, BBQ, picnic table, outside shower and campfire ring. The "speak easy" entertainment room has a restored green Naugahyde bar and stools, a couple of relaxing tables with chairs and a bluetooth speaker for your music.

Upstairs you will find Veronica's Suite with a queen bed, sitting area and ample closet space. A full bathroom and a second bedroom known as the Library with a queen are adjacent to Veronica's Suite. Walking down the hallway is a third bedroom with a queen and an enclosed porch with a sofa bed. A small bedroom with a single, a second full bathroom and fifth bedroom with a queen bed overlooking the gated celebrity entrance. A private hallway leads to a linen room and Joseph's Suite with a canopy king bed and a second enclosed porch with a rear egress to Veronica's stone root cellar.

Our Purpose...Our Mission!

"Our unique selling proposition (USP) is to "add value" to a guest's experience of the Adirondacks with mountain terra, engagements with nature, vistas to open the senses and activities to exhilarate and amplify these experiences. Agri-tourism farming too!

The Mountain Airstrip Farm strives to be a silvopasture farm,

integrating the forest with the animals and the crops. We do not want to strip the forest land for agriculture we want to blend the agriculture with the forest.

We will also have a hive of bees or two to pollinate our floral fields of lavender, gladiolas, and Dalias and wild flowers. We are growing Shiitake mushrooms as spores in oak logs and have over 100 Siberian red hard neck garlic bulbs in the ground.

Check out the mountain blueberries and raspberries, maple syrup and Paradise apples from Egypt thought to be the variety made famous by Adam and Eve, Sir Isaac Newton and Johnny Appleseed.
